After Yuna returns from the chamber of the fayth, follow the party out of the temple. You will see Yuna summoning her first Aeon, Valefor. Afterwards you van talk to the Aurochs about the blitzball game coming up. Speak to Wakka and he will ask you if Yuna takes your fancy. Answer however you feel as this won't impact anything in the game. Speak to him again and you will go to sleep. You will find yourself in a dream. Head towards Yuna to the left. After some conversation you will awake in the Travelers Lodge. When you leave Wakka will give you a sword, "Brotherhood". When you have control equip this to Tidus, and the Road of Wisdom to Yuna.

After leaving the village, if you want to upgrade Valefor's overdrive, return there and go into the shop. Speak to the shop lady and she will mention that her dog dug something up. Go to the most North-Easterly house and examine the dog. You will notice something mangled and slobbery in his mouth and Valefor will learn "Energy Blast".
